Artist Statement: My embroidered work draws on imagery and themes from historical illuminated manuscripts, primarily from the medieval and early renaissance periods in Europe. Aesthetically, I am drawn to the artwork from this era because of the muted palette, bold style, and often whimsical subject matter. My way of life and the way in which I access digitized versions these manuscripts would be incomprehensible to the original artists, but by hand stitching these images, I am translating them back into a form that echoes throughout history and becomes familiar again.
